Pre-requisites
- You must have the passed the relevant CITB Health and Safety Test within 2 years of the CPCS test.
Primary Objectives -
To provide a thorough understanding of the relevant operational and safety requirements applicable to articulated dump truck operators. Course will include:
- Describing the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator.
- Naming and explaining the purpose of principle components, the basic construction, controls and terminology.
- Conforming with manufacturer’s requirements as per the operators handbook, other types of information source and relevant regulations and legislation.
- Undertaking all pre-use checks.
- Configuring the plant to be set for travel (site and highway).
- Travelling over rough, undulating ground, steep inclines and level surfaces – loaded and unloaded.
- Manoeuvring in confined spaces whilst carrying loads.
- Ensuring the suitability of the tipping and loading area.
- Explaining actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services.
- Positioning to receive loads.
- Complying with loading procedures.
- Ensuring load integrity and security.
- Transferring loads to different locations.
- Discharging loads into trenches and over edges.
- Maintaining safe and tidy working areas.
- Carrying out shut down and securing procedures.
- Explaining the loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting.
