Pre-requisites

  1. You must have the passed the relevant CITB Health and Safety Test within 2 years of the CPCS test.

Primary Objectives -

To provide a thorough understanding of the relevant operational and safety requirements applicable to articulated dump truck operators. Course will include:

  • Describing the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Naming and explaining the purpose of principle components, the basic construction, controls and terminology.
  • Conforming with manufacturer’s requirements as per the operators handbook, other types of information source and relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Undertaking all pre-use checks.
  • Configuring the plant to be set for travel (site and highway).
  • Travelling over rough, undulating ground, steep inclines and level surfaces – loaded and unloaded.
  • Manoeuvring in confined spaces whilst carrying loads.
  • Ensuring the suitability of the tipping and loading area.
  • Explaining actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services.
  • Positioning to receive loads.
  • Complying with loading procedures.
  • Ensuring load integrity and security.
  • Transferring loads to different locations.
  • Discharging loads into trenches and over edges.
  • Maintaining safe and tidy working areas.
  • Carrying out shut down and securing procedures.
  • Explaining the loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting.
