Course Information
Pre-requisites
- Must be a minimum age of 18.
- Most hold valid sentinel track Safety Card endorsed with PTS.
- Must meet medical requiremments of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Medical Fitness Level 2.
- Must Meet the requiremments of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).
- Must hold current and valid OTP Core Competence.
Primary Objectives
At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:
- Describe how the MEWP is designed to function under normal operating conditions.
- What equipment calibration certificates and checks are required to comply with the relevant rules and regulations.
- How each of the items listed below will affect the protection arrangements, the way work is completed and how to confirm that the machine is suitable.
- Lines that remains open to traffic
- Signal structures and equipment
- Gradient
- Cant
- Bridges
- Platforms
- Overhead Line & Power lines
- Third and fourth rail electrified lines
- Tunnels
- Level crossings
- What preparatory checks need to be completed on the machine including:
- Pre-start checks/maintenance are complete/documented
- Machine Controllers checklist is completed
- Brakes are operational and fit for purpose
- Emergency protection equipment is available
- Briefly describe the main functions of all relevant controls available to the MEWPDriver/Operator, especially those which may also be used by the Machine Controller in an emergency.
- Avoid the MEWP being placed in an un-braked condition
- Demonstrate their ability to read a work plan and communicate its content effectively
- Control the movement of MEWP taking into account:
- a. Status of the infrastructure:
- Condition of the track
- Position and type of points
